Zhaoming Wu
Zhaoming Wu was born in China, trained at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, and later earned his MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco—a journey that threads classical rigor to contemporary light. Now long-active in the United States as both painter and educator, he is known for luminous, choreographed compositions in which gesture, atmosphere, and edge control carry as much meaning as subject.
His work has appeared widely in galleries across the U.S. and in major museum venues, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, and the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. A frequent presence in the literature of contemporary realism, Wu has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, Southwest Art, Art of the West, Western Art & Architecture, PleinAir Magazine, International Artist, as well as Arte y Libertad (Spain), Art Panorama (China), and Pratique des Arts (France).
Recognition has followed from leading organizations such as International Artist magazine, Oil Painters of America, and the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society. For eleven consecutive years, Wu served as a juror for the international ModPortrait competition at MEAM—an appointment that underscores both his authority in figurative painting and his commitment to emerging talent. An influential teacher as well as a prolific artist, he has published eleven books, distilling his approach to light, form, and design for the next generation of painters.
